Futuristic fashion studio RTFKT creates one of a kind sneakers and digital artefacts for gamers’ avatars to wear in their virtual worlds.
Gamers can shop during exclusive drops and wear the digital sneakers and jackets in whichever “metaverse” they congregate in, for example Decentraland, Fortnite or Minecraft.
According to RTFKT, it “uses the latest in game engines, NFT, blockchain authentication and augmented reality, combined with manufacturing expertise.” This allows it to create unique, visually arresting pieces that users can wear digitally and store in their digital wallets, before potentially selling them on at a later date.
NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), are used to authenticate and track the digital assets on the Blockchain, creating a permanent record of each item’s production and transaction history.
The exclusive pieces sell for upward of $10,000.
The RTFKT website says: “The RTFKT project was scheduled to take off in 2040, but the human development in consciousness has accelerated faster than anticipated. We are here to accelerate our digital future now.”
With a nice storytelling twist, it continues: “Rumours around a rogue AI (stolen from the Space X) used by RTFKT to create next generation designs are completely false and denied by RTFKT.”
